Shred-A-Thon
May

Shred-A-Thon

Royal Canadian Marine Search and Rescue Station 8 – Delta (RCMSAR08) is hosting its fourth annual by-donation shred-a-thon.

This is your opportunity to securely clear your shelves – and boxes and drawers – of paperwork while helping save lives on the water!!

Get all your sensitive documents shredded on Saturday, May 10, 2025 in the parking of South Delta Baptist Church, 1988 56th Street, Tsawwassen, BC

Cash and Visa donations will be accepted, with proceeds to support Royal Canadian Marine Search and Rescue Station 8 – Delta. A $20 donation per box is suggested.

As a charity, we depend on donor support to help us meet the cost of saving lives on the water. Our volunteers give their time in communities across B.C. for free, but they need training, well-maintained equipment, rescue boats and on-shore facilities. Your support means our RCMSAR volunteers, who put themselves in harm’s way in all kinds of conditions at sea, can save lives and stay safe.

Why should I shred?

Shredding is a great way to free storage space in your home or office by getting rid of paper you no longer need. It's also a safe way to dispose of documents and ensure they don’t get into the wrong hands. That’s why RCMSAR08 is working with a bonded recycling company, to provide the free shredding service.

Another benefit of shredding? Every ton of paper that gets recycled saves 17 trees.c

What should I shred?

Consider disposing of financial information, legal documents, credit card receipts, medical records, contracts, office files, archive files and papers that you have electronic copies of. Remember retention rules before destroying any business records. For example, the Canada Revenue Agency stipulates keeping business records for seven years.

If you have any questions please contact us at Info@rcmsardelta.com.

Yoga Nidra with Lissa Miles

Yoga Nidra with Lissa Miles

Join us for Yoga Nidra at the Red Barn as part of our Mental Health Awareness Month programming!

Yoga Nidra, or psychic sleep, is a deep relaxation technique and a form of meditation. The aim of Yoga Nidra is to experience the state between sleeping and waking. The practitioner lies in a comfortable position, often wrapped in a blanket with eyes closed and is guided into a deep state of conscious awareness sleep.

Yoga Nidra helps regulate the autonomic nervous system, regulating the heartbeat, breathing, digestion and blood flow. It helps balance the sympathetic and parasympathetic nervous systems, benefiting immunity, digestion and stress management. It also activates the pineal gland, releasing the hormone melatonin, which acts as a powerful antioxidant, aids immune function, manages blood pressure, cortisol levels and promotes restful sleep.

About the Instructor: Bill Miloglav

Bill Miloglav was born in Croatia and moved to Canada in 1953 with his family. His Croatian first name is Baldozar which is sometimes used in his painting signature. He feels very fortunate to have grown up in Richmond, B.C. near the unique and historical village of Steveston.

Bill joined Richmond Fire Rescue when he was 27 and retired as a Captain in 2008. During his career he created several paintings depicting his co-workers in action; some of these paintings are hanging in several fire halls today.  Bill has been painting since the age of twelve, mostly in watercolour or acrylic.  Since retiring, Bill is able to share his passion for art by teaching. He teaches both watercolour and acrylic painting at Continuing Education and Senior Centres in the lower mainland of B.C.

His subjects are often old buildings, character people, old cars and trucks abandoned in fields, children, boats, landscapes and nature.

To Bill, "Painting is a journey to an unknown world for those willing to take the risk”.

Gallery 1710 Presents "HAVEN"

Gallery 1710 is pleased to announce  "Haven" opening this Friday, April 4 at noon.  There are so many unique and wonderful interpretations of this subject and over 120 pieces of amazing art.  2D, as well a 3D works in all sizes, from small pieces that would be perfect as gifts or that small space in your home, to larger pieces to grace that larger wall you have been wondering about. This show is also our annual fundraiser for OWL and on Saturday April 5, we will have a reception featuring a live display from OWL, and birdhouses for sale, created by our members. Come and spend some time meandering through the gallery and discovering your new favourite works.  So much to see with the "Haven" theme.
